Easley-McCain Recording Fire Causes Major damage

Apparently, in the late afternoon yesterday, a legendary Memphis recording studio had a fire which destroyed a great deal of the irreplaceable, hand-built equipment and, potentially, master recordings by many artists who had worked in or were currently recording at the studio. From the Goner Records site:

there was a fire at easley recording studio today -- happened this afternoon. no one got hurt but the studio is kinda a disaster -- the room itself is OK -- soundproof door stopped the flames -- but the control room is shattered... all the consoles melted etc. the front room etc is shattered, as is the upstairs. the insurance company people are coming tomorrow... just thought ya'll would like to know.

If you're not familiar with what's been done at Easley-McCain over the years, click here or click here to see some of what comes up. I think you may recognize a few of those names. Chris Davis also wrote a great piece about the fire here that you can read. Among the names who have recorded there that Chris mentions in his piece are Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Guided By Voices, Pavement, Alex Chilton, The Grifters, The Gories, Cat Power, Wilco, Tav Falco, Silver Jews, Reigning Sound, American Death Ray, The Spinanes, Oblivians, Jeff Evans, Jeff Buckley.

Regarding the fire itself, details are sketchy, but I will let you know as soon as I know more. This is horrible, horrible news & my heart goes out to Doug, Davis, Kevin & all the bands who have been working on projects there.
