Blood Runs Through Your Veins, That's Where Our Similarity Ends.
Bram Cohen, the author of the now-world-changing BitTorrent protocol that swept computers around the world the last couple of years, is none too pleased with Microsoft's proposed new "copycat" alternative to BitTorrent, Avalanche.
The concept paper, released as a series of proposed algorithms, appear to do little more than offer built-in error correction to already existing BitTorrent technologies, a concept which Cohen has, since the creation of BitTorrent, consistently called "a dubious idea".
People wanting to have a crack at it are going to have to wait, though -- Cohen points out that Avalance currently amounts to what Cohen calls "vaporware", a technology idea with no known useful model in place for testing.
