The Memphis Chapter of the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Others Need Your Help Now.

From one of my readers, Katherine -- Thank You

If anyone is interested in volunteering to help staff one of the emergency shelters set up around town, you can contact the Volunteer Memphis disaster relief hotline at 901-324-8799. Volunteers are also needed to help man the hotline itself, screening calls and directing individuals to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the emergency shelters. Anyone interested in helping work the phones can contact Kevin Dean at kdean AT volunteermemphis DOT org.

Also, for any frequent flyers out there who might be a little low on $$ for donations/supplies, I thought this was a cool alternative: Donate Frequent Flyer Miles to Red Cross By Clicking Here

An Update Of Sorts: I just got off the phone with Volunteer Memphis where I have offered to donate my time to their phone bank. The shelters in the area are not currently to capacity, but they expect that will change within the next several days. Donations of time, goods, services, and financial contributions are all needed and welcomed. If you do not have money or usable goods to donate, remember that your time is valuable, too.
